I have been still remembered, the first day came into the Royal Hong
Kong Police Training School when I was being
acceptance to be a police constable. All students at the same course being
assembled at the Police headquarter in the morning of that day. After roll call
to confirm the name of student, we were being arranged to take the police lorry
went to the Royal Hong Kong Police Training School at Wong Chuk Hang.
Although I had already been set foot on the ground of the Police
Training School for physical test and interview, but I was still felt nervous came
into the school again as I was a police student.
We got off from the police lorry, and fall-in at a place with an
irregular formation; we known its name “the small playground” in later, waiting
for the instructors to roll call our name; at that moment, we started to thing “who
is our instructor, and which style he looks like? In shortly, the image of the
movies about the strictly instructor how to train his students were appearing
in front of my eyes.
I stand beside of my luggage, listening to the roll call of the name of
the students from the trumpet voice of instructor sergeant. At that time, in
the names of the list I heard my name.
I was being allocated to the course of 1195; class Q. The whole term of
students had four classes of male, and one class of female. Each class had 20
students, and the allocation of the class was basically height as a criterion,
rather than qualification; because of the same height, marching in time, it will
be look better than without sizing.
The highest qualification in the Q class was form
7; he was completed the high level of secondary school. At the time, I was the
second youngest in the class; eighteen years and five months old boy.
The first
day of life of the PTS, in fact, didn’t worse than the imagination of my mind.
The head teacher of Q class Mr. Zhao, he was an acting station sergeant,
stature was not tall, but thin. (Acting means temporarily, not official
promotion) The deputy head teacher Mr. Wong was a sergeant, his stature was
shorter than Mr. Zhao, a little fat guy. The responsibility of the head teacher
was to teach the law of Hong Kong and the ordinance
of the Police Force. The deputy head teacher was to teach students how to
marching and shooting.
In that
day, all of the students had an order to cut their hair in consistent standard
by the judge of hair. After that, new students went to the store to draw the
personal equipment led by their deputy head teacher. Everybody using their
hands holding their luggage back to each class quarters, the order will be
according to their number allocated beds and personal lockers.
In these
years, the hostel of the police constables was an independent form of a shaped
four-story building. The staircase was in the middle, on the right was a
student dormitory room , on the left was teaching classroom, and toilet was
next to the middle of the stairs, it just outside the dorm. Each class had
occupied one floor, and responsible to clean the floor everywhere. Stairs, it
will be separated to each class, and responsible to clean by them.
